The GNU Hurd has been under active development since the 0.2 release. Until the next release, the current sources are only available directly from the CVS repository. Please see http://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/download.html#cvs for more details about obtaining the current Hurd source code. If you are interested in running the Hurd rather than developing it, you are better off installing a binary distribution of the GNU/Hurd system. The contrib/ directory contains files provided by volunteers contributing to Hurd development, that are not part of any release. See the contrib/README file. The old/ directory contains the previous releases. They are archived for historical reasons, but should not be used by users or developers.
